Biography. 

 

For some details about writer Todd E. McCormick; I started writing in 1992 with The Ephemeral Mind of a Climber while attending graduate school and on my path to qualifying for and becoming a member of Mensa, the international high IQ society in 1995.  Before  that? From 1981 to 1987 I climbed extensively (New York, West Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina) and soloed 5.12 in North Carolina,  a culminating crux pitch ranking regarded as world-class technical rock climbing. I climbed the testpieces at the Shawangunks in NY, Foops and at Crowders Mountain at the time, testpiece- Burnt Black Crack, an overhanging offwidth. From these experiences and drugs and drink out the window and a friend's alleged suicide behind me, never, I wrote The Ephemeral Mind of a Climber (creative nonfiction technically, a socio-subcultural account of a day in the life) and How to Climb, regarding being such as fiction and nonfiction, respectively.  I have written fifty-three manuscripts since 1995, developing my writing talents in both fiction and some how-to's by the nature of nonfiction.  The fifty-three include music compositions of jazz and new age primarily, new music by definition. Of many related qualifications, I taught college a number of years and was an independent researcher presenting to Harvard, MIT, Cambridge (England), Hebrew University and U. of North Carolina scholars and academians on matrix theory, complex analysis and analytic number theory,  specifically infinite cyclical matrices and a modified conjecture/Riemann Zeta function problem with an alternate pending proof stemming from the original Dr. Chu's summability methods and convergence. 

 

I also worked at various other jobs; as a bookstore clerk, as instrument man on a surveying crew for nearly twenty years amongst twenty other part-time jobs. For example, I was an artist for a few galleries, a tutor, a computer programmer, manager of a masters swim team, comedian/actor in Garage Television and worked for Cleveland NASA crunching Wronskian matrices by hand. I did volunteer work at a radio station reading Omni magazine and Sagan for airing and did other jobs such as Upward Bound tutoring and team co-teaching.  I also taught adults with emotional illnesses in the areas of creative writing, art and music. I was on a speaker circuit for a brief time regarding motivation, recovery and for the book, Ephemeral Mind. 

 

A few full-time jobs and part-time jobs gave me life experiences to draw from in my writing besides free climbing. (Note. A disproportionately large number of writers have various jobs giving them experiences to feed their writing.) Other experiences, hobbies such as model airplanes, electronics and luthiery, and experiences in bibliotherapy;  in creativity, the brain, multiple intelligences, writing and recovery lead to attributing to a healthy background.

 

In addition to a landscape course, an India ink course, and experimentation of self-taught status, I was tutored considerably by NYC's Bill Jordan in the visual arts. And thanks. I also was given ample nurturing by Lois Althouse my mother who was tutored by a Swiss folk artist in her youth.

 

I worked in composition and theory, tutored by J. Ferrito, M.M., Yale and taught by A. Russo of the Cleveland Orchestra. I sat in on creative writing classes at the university and in the community at Free School.

 

Workshops amongst active discussions with artistic associates in the community added to my background.  I, then five years after starting Mind finished a first version and tested with proctor becoming a life member of Mensa, the international high IQ society celebrating 29 years of membership March 2024.  I also then followed to compose for the Miami String Quartet (Fla).

Todd McCormick has completed fifty-two mss. since The Ephemeral Mind of a Climber in paperback 1995/1999 (which precursors (1995) his qualification after a proctored exam for MENSA), doubled the art to 300 oils, acrylics, mixed and some ink, watercolor, sumi-e, charcoal and composed 265 new music works, recorded 20 albums including, jazz piano, a piano album in Roma scales (A, D, E) and an international, alternative indie work where he led the project of Kent Dharma Bums' first album. KDB is an alternative, independent, international construct, avant-garde work titled Googolplex.

 

1) The Ephemeral Mind of a Climber was a stepping stone for the music.  EMC is in an actuality creative nonfiction novel found in fiction usually about a group of crag rats in the generative well-spent misspent youth of the historically ephemeral retro 80s, stage left eastern United States climbing areas in a universal perspective. De-evolution, a degeneracy nearby amidst pantheism and hedonism abounds upwardly in the vernal and forgiving creation of G-d's known as the crags, the rocks, the wall, the twilight zone, the cliff notes, in tune with nature, nurture and suffering and elation and a change of elevation and micro/nano altitude conflict.  "Wah," is the kryas, the battle cry of subtleties, a respective cry, say, ... so to speak.  Social times and burrito stands in New York make an environment ... well, sound. Like early "Sprockets" days on the wall, in the mind. Have gear, will travel.

2) Goat.  Dare say brat pack, the elusive endless gap year enrolled and otherwise in an experience of inductive summed experiences greater than the whole of being in one's twenties of the mind, budding from sophomoric dreams of an ethereal surrealism being a reality, say, fledgling pseudo-intellectualism, a time of learning and labor a group of young Americans with international minds in the Midwest traipse time and space, distancing themselves from the stagnation of mediocrity.  In a hope to survive spiritually, they create a life in the twilight of extended adolescence and enlightenment of pseudo-intellectualism and foreground, foundation, and fundamentally of unforeseen artificial intelligence, an end being a beginning, beginning, an end. Earthy brat pack, well-grounded. Budding, blossoming philosophy coming of age.

3)  Goats Heterodoxy, aka Social Cues.  This continuation of sorts after Goat is a work of Todd E. Althouse McCormick's following through the sequences of events, a stream of organized consciousness, and an ice-breaking through the residual chaos, the experiences flow through the conflict of restless youth of all ages, ... Goats Heterodoxy also known as Social Cues.

4) Goat Prince. Princess Rachel and Goat Prince are on a search of entrepreneurship and spirituality, a mindfulness meditation walk to find the proof of the existence of God, Blessed Be He.  They are on the mystical path of finding livelihoods together.  Returning to God they make it. 5) We Dress Like Spies. A technical at times spy novel romance and spiritual awakenings are illuminated and much fun is had by the good guys, by all, becoming victorious in American-style theme of cowboy/sunset leaving a western flair to the opus, Australian-style and comic happiness leave one guessing at say, turning the pages. From remnant modernized retrospective thoughts/response of James Coburn's 1967 The President's Analyst.

6) Spy Talk. The sequel of We Dress Like Spies, relationships continue as a James Bond/Mike Myers coffee talk spy version comes to resolve.  Some astronautical wheeling and dealings have occurred over the course of the lifetime of We Dress Like Spies/Spy Talk cybernetics and astronautical carryings-on.  This potpourri is for the techno-psychadelic and too cool one is square hipster.

7) Waifs Planet. True socio-science fiction, a group of middle, well-grounded extraordinaires of female persuasion/gender in above-average relationships and dynamics, astro-imps find a new planet. This galaxy, the barely presumed loci. Les Miz has gone astral, another time, place, traveling spaceniks abound.

8) The Mystery of the Missionary's Missing Band

​

The saddening inflection point, the death of the missionary's sister leaves the executor of the will in a difficult place and circumstances when the wedding band of her brother, the minister/missionary comes up missing.  Unraveling the mystery is left to the reader in a game of skill and wits, emotive dynamics to discover the outcome of the ring and most importantly the situations of the people and the relationships. Imagine the feelings and intensity of a minister's wedding band, a symbol of holy matrimony of added dimension stolen.  Whodunnit? Testy situation with resolve.

He is an independent researcher first solving a "pending alternative" proof to a modified conjecture, the Riemann hypothesis in 1994-5 presenting to graduates of of Hebrew University, MIT and University of North Carolina following a Dr. Chu's 1987 work at Kent State.

9) On the Laws of the Universe ...

 

which as a panacea for the intellect has applications in artificial intelligence, is based on transcendental meditation and axioms, lateral thinking structures, a mathematical basis of analytic number theory, wave and a layperson's string theory and studies in physics.  It will leave the reader asking why, see psychologies in a new light, seeing a new way amongst ancient ways to take in the experience known as breath, as life, energy, prana, say where there is a seeking of no-seeking, a no-seeking of seeking, of seeing, no-seeing, knowing, non-knowing, being. Readers with a curiosity about various ways to see the universe(s) will enjoy the lucidity of the subject of perspective. A tangent plane of hyperdimension with mathematics, physics, philosophy, psychology and religion are encompassed in this work. A complement to how the mind works in relationships and response. A brief read although in a depth without limitations. Expand your mind!

After the author, intensely dedicated to technical rock climbing  for six years obsessively focusing, "peaking" at a successful solo effort at Stone Mtn, NC on a cherished granite dome of 5.12 full crux pitch, a "bucket" list goal, a primer manifested for the beginner, seasoned and armchair climber's wits.  This is About Being Climbing.
